The Universal Periodic Review

“Universal Periodic Review” (UPR) – a procedure during which each country must report under the United Nations as it adheres to human rights and freedoms – and receive critical assessment of its report.

Since 15 march 2006 UPR was established as a mechanism created to follow the resolutions of the General Assembly. Each country passes through the Universal Periodic Review once in every 4 years.

During the review on General Assembly each country presents its report on the human rights situation. Human rights activists, in their turn, provide a so-called “shadow report”.
