Ukraine: Authorities must start to implement police criminality law ahead of Euro 2012
A new law which paves the way for independent investigations into allegations of police violence in Ukraine must be enforced in order to curb widespread police criminality in the country ahead of Euro 2012, Amnesty International said.

Case over death of Ihor Indylo sent for further investigation
The Kyiv Court of Appeal has ordered further investigation in the criminal prosecution of two police officers charged of involvement in the death of Ihor Indylo in the Shevchenkivsky Police Station in Kyiv in May 2010.

Legal Aid Lawyer Serhiy Medvedev
Tetyana Pechonchyk from the Human Rights Information Centre has interviewed Kharkiv lawyer Serhiy Medvedev, whose name has often appeared here in connection with his defence of Yakiv Strogan. It is thanks to Serhiy Medvedev that Strogan was finally, after 14 months in custody, released in March this year.

Do the Police learn by their mistakes?
On 10 May the results were presented of the nationwide monitoring campaign “Police under Scrutiny» which began this year on 31 March in 12 oblasts after a pilot run in November last year. The campaign is being run by the Association of Ukrainian Association of Human Rights Monitors on Law Enforcement which prepared the guidelines for public monitoring, as well as carried out training sessions for NGO activists and journalists.
